A well-known singer-songwriter from the Magdalen Islands, Georges Langford has released 5 original albums, in addition to composing film scores. His latest album, Il n'y a qu'une histoire (2003, GSI Musique) was selected by the newspaper Le Devoir as one of the ten best Quebec records of the year. In 1994, SOCAN awarded the title of Classique de la chanson québécoise in recognition of 25,000 radio airings for the song Le frigidaire. In 2007, this same song was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Also a writer and poet, he published L'Anse-aux-Demoiselles (Leméac 1985), Le premier voyageur (Hexagone 1992). For this last work, he received the Jovette-Bernier literary prize awarded by the Salon du livre de Rimouski. In 2001, he was awarded the Grand Prix of the Ronald-Gasparic International Poetry Festival, held annually in Romania, for his body of work. In 2015, the Société Nationale de l'Acadie awarded him the Léger-Comeau Medal, the highest distinction offered by the Acadian people.
