La Patente is made up of four guys, originally from Madawaska in North Western New Brunswick, with all-save-one living in Fredericton for work. These Acadian/Brayon artists, all accomplished musicians who have been involved in numerous other musical projects, decided at the start of the current pandemic to form a new group and to write and record songs as an outlet to the uncertainty of the time (and as a celebration of their culture and friendship).
La Patente’s first album, “L’Illusion d'la perfection”, includes 11 original songs. It is released by Le Grenier musique label, which is also the band’s booking agency and management company. The album is distributed in stores and on various digital platforms around the world through Distribution Plages / Propagande.
The songs are written by Marc Colecchio, who is also the lead singer of the band. The musical composition is a team endeavour, perfected mainly through jam-sessions over the past 24 months. As the band explains, “this record offers songs about the world of the everyman and their demons. The sound is modern, but when people hear our music, they tell us that it feels familiar, like they’ve known us for a long time.”
The artists describe the album as “100% Brayon, unfiltered, tapping into inspiration from all over the musical spectrum.” The acoustic sound draws influence from the various styles of country, cajun, folk, blues, and punk rock. The band’s musical spirit ranges from the Quebec Redneck Bluegrass Project to Plume Latraverse, Cayouche, Canaille, Gros Mené, Lisa LeBlanc, Thomé Young and Les Colocs. These 11 songs, all in French, are inspired by the personal stories of the band members, but also by regional folklore, local histories, and current events.
In addition to Marc Colecchio, the collective La Patente comprises Mathieu Émond, Marc-André Godin, and Jeremy Ouellette
