Artist biography
"My name is Bradley Skerry and I'm an artist originally from Shediac. I'm still relatively unknown in the arts community, but I'm starting to take my first steps. I've never shown my paintings in a gallery or displayed my work for the general public. For the moment, I'm flying under the radar on social media. Why not break the ice for the first time for people in my beautiful community?
From an early age, I always had an artistic aptitude for art. In class, my notebooks were filled to the brim with little drawings. In my youth, my art never broke the surface. My creativity took a step back to focus on the pure and applied sciences. However, like a dormant volcano, my passion, my fire for art, was buried within me.
In 2020, just before the pandemic, I created my first canvas with acrylic paint. During this period of experimentation, I taught myself to use different techniques. I was always aiming for improvement after each canvas. I fell in love with the process. Then, in 2021, I made my transition to oil painting and my plein air approach.
The most significant period in my artistic journey was when I was ill at the end of 2022. I lost my vision temporarily and had to continue chemotherapy treatments for my Cancer. Painting helped me forget my bad days. Despite this misfortune, and ironically, I'm grateful to have been able to devote my time to my artistic journey. My style and passion for painting have evolved exponentially. Even Cancer couldn't stop me from painting outdoors. In September 2023, I won first place in the Art Love speed painting competition in Shediac.
Maybe in everyday life I'm a shy and quiet person, but when I'm in front of my easel. I'm Skerry Painter, a little-known artist."
